Acacia moored at her new home:
Historic US Southworks, Illinois

Arriving in Burns Harbors, IN at the end of June, 2006, the Acacia is in excellent material condition.  Despite being the last of her class and advanced age, the Acacia was fully operational when transferred to AAI. Prior to decommissioning, the crew did an incredible job of overhauling every piece of equipment on board. The final MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION presented to the Acacia on June 30, 2006 recognized the cutter’s material condition as “second to none” among the active Coast Guard Fleet.

On November 10th, the Acacia sailed from Burn Harbor, IN to her new home in the North Slip of historic US Steel Southworks, located at the Foot of South East 86th Avenue and Lake Michigan, Cook County, IL.  This move represents the culmination of over a thousand hours of volunteer work physically aboard the cutter as well as administrative work with numerous government and private offices.

Currently, the Acacia is being regularly maintained under the care of her volunteer crew.  The Sentinel of the Door remains in exceptional condition and AAI is working to have her open to the public as soon as possible.
